Aromatherapy Against Infectious Diseases and Increasing Immunity
The beauty of aromatherapy is that it has a dual mode of action, just like any botanical medicine against diseases: they stimulate immune system and are extremely toxic to microorganisms. And the biggest perk about it, is that it does not disturb the delicate and essential flora, our natural flora, that protects us from harmful organisms.
The use of essential oils, especially the ones that have very strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties (ti-tree, ravensara, oregano, cinnamon, clove, lemon, rosemary, eucalyptus, thyme…) does not lead to the development of resistant strains of pathogens, as it does with the use of antibiotics, or better said over use of antibiotics (STAPH, MRSA). Overuse of antibiotics in animals and in humans (and we consume those antibiotic injected meat) is causing a great health crisis in our society today.
Here is a fact, in 1941, only 40,000 units per day of penicillin for 4 days were required to cure pneumococcal pneumonia. Today, a patient could receive 24 million units of penicillin a day and yet die of the meningitis.
Holistic medicine supports life and relies strongly on keeping the body in homeostasis while keeping the natural defense mechanisms intact.
Essential oils are very effective at stimulating immunity while neutralizing pathogens in the body.
My favorite oils to do the work are:
Ti tree
Thyme – Thymus vulgaris, linalool (for kids) and thymol types
Ravensara
Eucalyptus radiata
Lemon
Oregano
