Skin care is a very important branch of aromatherapy, using essential oils and various other natural substances can provide an array of treatments for every skin type and age.
But before I go into that, first about our skin. It is so much more than just our outer wrapping, covering a precious present within J. It is our largest organ and it is ONE of just two routes by which essential oils enter our blood stream and our organs – our body! (the other way through the lungs)
Our skin is a giant filtration system that helps us eliminate many waste products through the sweating process via our pores. However, it is very much linked to other elimination organs, such as kidneys and liver and colon, and if those are out of order then various skin diseases and conditions can occur, ranging from eczema to acne and boils, rashes. It might be due to the fact that your body is trying to eliminate via skin more toxins that the skin can effectively deal with. So keeping your system healthy, by eating healthy diet rich in vitamins and nutrients and lots of clean water, you are not only going to feel great, but you are going to look amazing too.
So, why use essential oils, and why in the world are they so effective?
Well there are some determining factors whether any substance will be able to pass through the outer layer of the skin or not and it is the SIZE of the molecules from which the substance is made up.
Essential oils have a molecular structure, which is very small and simple and very similar to our cell membrane, thus they can pass through the layers of the skin easily. But not all essential oils created equal. For some it may take 20 min for others several hours.
The other very important factor is that essential oils dissolve EASILY in fatty substances. And since our skin has its own protective layer of sebum, essential oils dissolve in sebum, making the absorption by the skin easier.
Once essential oils have been applied to the skin (via carrier oil), their particles pass into the fluid that bathes every cell of the body and from their they can pass through the walls of lymph ducts and tiny capillaries. And that’s how they travel within your body.
Pretty neat J, eh!
This is a very safe and effective (just follow the dosage guidelines) way of getting essential oils into your body.
Essential oils can contribute enormously to the health and appearance of the skin and that’s next!
Lets talk about wrinkles, dry skin, spots, dull skin, lifeless, lacking tone and suppleness.. Ouch!
It’s ok, it is not the end of the world, it is just the beginning.
Using essential oils judiciously in your daily routine can turn your skin completely around. I promise.
Wrinkles occur, as the skin gets older, just because the connective tissue in the inner layer, Dermis, looses elasticity. The best example is of the elastic band that with time and continuous use stretches and does not go back to its original state. The same with the skin, and how we stretch it – by frowning, smiling, gaining /loosing weight, sleeping positions, – basically living it up! And as kids, we had no issue with out skin going back to its original state after smiling, and later in years, especially after 30 the tissues just looses it is ability to bounce back.
Regular use of aromatherapy skin are products and using them as massage for face and body can do a great deal at reducing wrinkling, and improving overall health and appearance of the skin. Massage and essential oils ensure circulation and blood supply and oxygen to the tissue in the inner layer of the skin. The cells there need oxygen for health and growth, as does every other cell in the body. Getting facial massage from the trained professional is the best way to go about it and yourself; you can just massage your scalp on daily basis, which stimulates circulation to the whole head.
What are the key essential oils for a beautiful and healthy looking skin, well, lets ask the Egiptians J
For centuries it was Frankincense, followed by Lavender and Neroli.
Frankincense has an amazing ability to preserve and even reduce existing wrinkles and most importantly PREVENT further wrinkles forming.
Neroli is particularly valuable when it comes to cellular regeneration. It stimulates the body to produce healthy new cells, and this can help to keep the skin looking smooth by delaying the ageing process in the layer of the connective tissues.
